Ricky MacDonald with his beloved guitar.

Richard Celestine MacDonald was born in Kingussie, Invernesshire, to Paul and Ellen MacDonald on 3 May 1945.

Paul arrived in Kingussie during the war from Newfoundland as a lumber man and Ellen worked in an ammunitions factory.

At the age of three, Ricky was taken to Newfoundland with his parents, where Paul built a home for them. After four years they returned to Scotland, settling in Leith, where his sister Moyra and brother Ian were born.
