The last of the original founding members of the Isle of Arran Pipe Band celebrated his 90th birthday last week when he was presented with a large chocolate cake in recognition of his achievements.
Lindsay Proudfoot, who joined the band in 1975 as its first ever secretary, has since been the treasurer, pipe major and held various other positions during his 42 years of service, and can still be seen taking part in an arduous schedule of events, some involving mile-long marches in full regalia.

At a small ceremony at Brodick Castle last Sunday, after another wellattended performance, his band mates, who call themselves his ‘pipe band family’, many of whom he tutored to play the bagpipes, presented him with the cake before he had to rush off for another commitment.

He may be 90 but Lindsay is still playing for the band at weekly events throughout the summer.
