UP TO 70% of Dutch athletes may be lacking in vitamin D, according to a study commissioned by the Netherlands Olympic Committee.
Such high levels of deficiency found in the elite athletes are in line with those from studies in the UK and USA which pointed to 40-60% of athletes having inadequate levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the nonactive form of the vitamin stored in the body.
