There’s nothing worse than a guy whose hair is thinning and he acts as if it isn’t. As soon as I noticed my hair was thinning, when I was about 27, I shaved it all off.

I was the only one who could see what was happening — even my partner couldn’t tell — but I knew it was the beginning of the end. Being bald was the last look on my mind.

At various stages I’d had thick and curly shoulder-length hair and I enjoyed varying my hairstyles. For a while, I did try to bolster my hair and reduce the loss by taking Propecia, a supplement, but I got bored after a couple of months and stopped. I had no clue how long it was going to take before it was noticeable, so I just took control. It took a while for to me adjust to it, and I was in shock the first time I looked at myself in the mirror.
