Words Tim Heap
Looking at Taron Egerton, the brooding, ruggedly handsome 29-year-old star of this year’s Elton John biopic Rocketman, you’d be forgiven for thinking his transformation into the Your Song singer might be a little too much of a stretch, even for someone of his acting and, as he reveals in the film, singing, calibre. But critics and audiences alike were won over by his turn in the warts-and-all romp charting Elton’s journey from piano-playing child prodigy to global hit-maker, with all the tantrums and addiction problems that came with his rise to super-stardom.
The expectation for Taron and co to deliver was high, following as it did hotly on the heels of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which had a strong showing during this year’s awards season (and was also partly directed by Rocketman’s Dexter Fletcher).
