Australian Railway History  |  ARH January 2017
Australian Railway History opens the New Year with feature articles on the early routes proposed for the Main South Line to enter Goulburn and a continuation of the railway contracting work undertaken by members of the Watkins family. In this case, we cover the career of William Watkins’ son Richard George, who assumed responsibility for his father’s contracts in October 1878. Richard subsequently undertook engineering assignments relating to the Cairns Range Railway in Queensland and served as Resident Engineer for the WAGR at Coolgardie in Western Australia.
Garry Hayes describes escape of the locomotive crew of Train No. 480 when it ran into a major landslide in the No. 3 tunnel on Red Hill near Coffs Harbour in May 1974, while Bill Phippen present details of new ‘treasures’ recently donated to the ARHSnsw Railway Resource Centre.
