Bass Guitar  |  96 October 2013

Meet Billy Gould, founder member and bassist with the truly uncategorisable and amazing Faith No More. Driving his tone to unheard-of heights and attacking his bass with fingers, thumb and pick, Gould is a lesson to all of us that it doesn’t matter how you play as long as you play like you mean it. The fact that Gould is on our cover is all the more remarkable because he so rarely does press these days. The fun doesn’t stop there, of course, with a whole raft of bass players lined up for your attention. Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold (who topped the UK charts back in August – an amazing feat for a metal band), Andrew Levy of the Brand New Heavies, Mark Hamilton of Ash and Tony Campos of Soulfly all have essential information to impart for bass players, and impart it they do. Head to Bassically Speaking for bite-sized nuggets of bass goodness from up-and-coming jazz, rock and session players, and don’t forget to send the great Jeff Berlin a query or two for his advice page. And all that before you even get to the reviews and tuition pages, where you’ll find gear and advice for literally every budget and skill level. Enjoy!

Preferred the old reader Reviewed Saturday, November 24, 2012
Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted.
