How we deal with ailments is often a lot to do with how we were brought up. Some of us were made to gargle salt at the first sign of a sore throat, many were hunched, towel across head, over a steaming bowl of Vaporub, and I even have a friend whose mother administered Jägermeister to him, medicinally, for any ache or pain he complained of. For most of our day-to-day health gripes, we often try to seek out a natural remedy, or at least one that doesn’t involve heading to see the doctor.
I’ve started to think a lot about how I treat my body and mind when I’m not feeling 100 per cent. I have unfortunately suffered with headaches and migraines for the majority of my adult life. This has meant plenty of drugs, a lot of time at the doctor’s and days spent lying down, debilitated in the dark. It’s a real pain, but something I’ve managed to keep under control with medication. That is until earlier this year, when the drugs ceased to work.
With any chronic illness this can happen and it’s a constant game of tweaking and trial and error to find what helps. Whilst starting the cycle again, I started to research alternative treatments.
