The 2023 Topps Chrome Update Baseball Variations are focused primarily on rookies. That said, some veterans who went to new teams for 2023 also make the cut.
Like the similar SSP cards found in 2023 Topps Chrome Baseball, variations in Chrome Update are all variations. That’s the first step in figuring them out.
While they all use different photos, there’s a quick way to spot the rookies. Base cards (and Refractors) for those first-year players featured on the variations checklist are all part of the Rookie Debut subset, which is noted on card fronts. The SSPs do not. Instead, they go with the standard design.
