Arookie-year Bowman Chrome Draft autographed card of Mike Trout sold for $186,580 in Goldin Auctions’ 2019 Winter Auction that closed March 2.
The card is an Orange Refractor parallel to Trout’s regular 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft, and is #’d 14/25. This copy was graded 9.5 Gem Mint by Beckett Grading Services and received a 10 for the autograph.
The card carried a minimum bid of $25,000 and attracted 22 bidders before the final price, with buyer’s premium, was established. According to Goldin Auctions, of the 25 copies of this orange parallel, just one example has achieved a higher grade.
“It was exciting to watch the great wave of enthusiasm that emerged with the off ering of this card,” Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions said in a release. “Our advertising and promotional eff orts ensured that everyone in the industry was aware of the sale, and collectors as well as investors were anxious to capture this very specialcommemorative of the sport’s most accomplished young player.”

While some collectors say they are put off with the lack of MLB logos on the single-licensed Panini sets (MLBP licensed/HOF licensed), Donruss works hard to negate that limitation with a lurry of serial #’d inserts and a nod toward history – 1985 Donruss to be exact, with the regular Diamond Kings carrying the same black borders from ’85. hey have also tapped into their past with Action All-Stars, shrinking the former large cards from the 1980s into regular size cards today.
There’s a lot to chase here. Donruss delivers plenty to keep you ripping packs, and that’s what makes it worthwhile. It works on several levels. Fun break? Deinitely.
