Drew Maggi had waited 13 years and played in 1,154 games in the minor leagues before he finally made his major league debut on April 26 in front of the home crowd at PNC Park. The 33-year-old infielder received a standing ovation as he stepped to the plate. After turning on a pitch that went foul down the leftfield line, Maggi went on to strike out in four pitches. But he had done it as a major leaguer. “I’ve never been more happy for a strikeout in my life,” he joked afterward. Three days later, Maggi collected his first two big-league hits and his first RBI.
