A rare game-used catcher’s glove used circa 1935 by Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson, was offered by Goldin in an August auction.
The glove is a rare look at a Gibson game-used piece of equipment.
With more than a week left in the bidding, the glove was already closing in on $16,000.
As Goldin states: “The glove, which is constructed of top-grade steer hide with cotton laces and a conventional open back with an adjustable wrist strap, comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00868) for game use, plus a Letter of Provenance from Joe McGlocklin of the MACC FUND, stating “this baseball mitt was donated by the National Negro Baseball Remembrance Club, which obtained the glove from the estate of Josh Gibson in 1965. The glove was used at the tail end of Gibson’s baseball career with the Homestead Grays.”
