One of the things I love about the Real homes (from page 29) we
feature in Period Homes & Interiors is the determination and resource fulness of their owners to restore them to their former glory, regardless of the extent of the work or the time spent to achieve their goals. The
17th-century home of Tim and Suzi Lowe is certainly testament to the hard work and attention to detail that goes into the sympathetic restoration of a period home – from the original architectural mouldings
and panelling to the fine staircase, the house displays the best of traditional British craftsmanship, conserved for future generations.
The future of British craftsmanship is defi nitely in safe hands in the form of Zoe Darlington, whose fabulous handmade lamps are profi led in our Home craft (page 102) feature this month. Zoe’s inspiration comes from vintage fabric and trims and her bases are hand turned in hardwood by a company who have been turning for five generations – creating unique designs that are destined to become treasured family heirlooms. Further testament to British craftsmanship and resourcefulness is Brintons,
whose story you can follow in our Historic homeware (page 98) feature, from modest beginnings in 1783, the company is now a global success, supplying carpets to prime ministers, presidents and the Royal Family – it makes you proud to be British!
