British Period Homes Magazine No.46 Charming Homes Back Issue

English

Adding a conservatory extension to our home was one of
the best investments we ever made in our property. It is my
favourite room in the house – an additional living space
leading off from the kitchen that is always full of light and warmth.
It is where our friends and family congregate when they visit, where
we unwrap our gifts at Christmas and where, during the warmer
summer months, we throw back the sliding doors and extend our
home out into the garden. It really is a room for all seasons. In our
Essential Guide (from page 71) this month we focus on how to
create your dream conservatory from scratch, from planning and building
regulations, and key designs suitable for period homes, to flooring, paint,
window dressings and those all important finishing touches – we’ve got
everything you need to create a space that caters for all your needs. The
owners of our Real Homes (from page 27) this issue have all created
spaces that cater for their specific needs, whether it is Birdie Fortescue’s
idyllic holiday retreat, or the two-up two-down in Brighton that Sara
Sivewright has brought to life with her quirky collection of artwork and
accessories, they have transformed once unloved properties into a place
they are happy to call home. Just the inspiration we all need to ensure our
surroundings not only reflect something of ourselves, but provide a unique setting in which we are proud to welcome guests all year round.
