It’s here at last: spring. Both in the birdroom and out of doors, springtime birdsong is one of life’s gifts to the fancier. And this week we celebrate some of the lesser-known voices of the avian world, as well as lamenting the loss of many wild places that used to support soul-refreshing songsters. In the breeding rooms, all is action and we focus on canaries, budgies and the gorgeous but sometimes-overlooked cockatiel. News of a serious repeat bird theft is sobering, but to balance that we have a real feelgood story of flourishing rescue birds, too.
