EARTHQUAKE tremors left people around Tarbert and on the Isle of Gigha feeling a little shaky this week.
A seismic alert by the British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed the hamlet of Ormsary near Lochgilphead was the epicentre of two quakes in just three days.
The earthquakes, which peaked at a 2.6 magnitude, came from eight kilometres below ground but were four billion times smaller that the 2011 quake in Japan. Tremors were felt as far away as Tarbert on both occasions, but online posts on Gigha Noticeboard’s Facebook page reported rumblings from the first quake had also reached the usually tranquil island.
