DVLA URGED TO AXE RULE ON Q-PLATES
Classic owners are having requests to have standard cars on Q-plates
re-registered with age-related numbers rejected by the DVLA – because original owners missed a twelve-month window for appeals. Owners hitting out at the rule include Keith Tucker, who is restoring a 1973 Mercedes that was issued with a Q-plate in 1986, despite it being unmodifi ed. The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) is now asking for others affected to come forward. Keith said: ‘Ask most people about a Q-plate and they assume it’s a kit car or write-off. Why is the DVLA so rigid on this ruling, and why is it making an
honest enthusiast feel like a criminal?’
