Classic Massey  |  Hard-working 390 gets a makeover
Unfortunately, I have to start
things off on a sombre note.
It is with great sadness that I
announce this will be my last
issue of CM&Fe.
After 26 issues, I’m relinquishing my
position in the Spring Suspension Seat
to allow Kevin Mills to take the controls.
I won’t steal Kevin’s thunder by telling
you about him, but I will assure you that
you’re in safe hands. As for me, I’m not
straying too far – you can’t get rid of me
that easily!
Before I go, I thought I’d pick out a
few of my highlights – as there have
been some cracking features during my
tenure (thanks to our dedicated band of
correspondents, I might add).
First up is Gordon Easton’s collection,
featured in the September 2011 issue.
Finding a sizeable collection is one
thing, but viewing one with tractors of a
consistently high quality is another. It’s
fair to say that Gordon and son Roger are
passionate about the collection and a
credit to the preservation movement.
Next, although these aren’t any order
of preference, is Laurence Cordner’s
beautifully-restored MF 398, from
the February 2012 issue. When Chris
McCullough told me he’d found a gem of
a tractor, little did I know that this gem
was more of a huge diamond! Considering
Laurence began with a rough, ex-dairy
farm machine, it’s unbelievable how good
the tractor looks now.
Thirdly is a tractor I have known since
my childhood – an MF 230 fitted with
an ARPS half-track system. With its low
hours and original appearance, the little
230 will always be special to me – but
the comments I received about it after
we featured it in the March 2012 issue
assured me that you like it too!
