The word on the street when we were first thinking of putting Marc Almond on the cover of Classic Pop once more was that his latest studio album would be a swansong affair as he considered retirement. A case of say hello, wave goodbye - permanently.
We’re happy to report, though, that rumours of Marc turning his back on the music world have been wildly exaggerated. He’s planning nothing of the sort and that new record in question, Chaos And A Dancing Star, is as full of dark brilliance as anything in his estimable back catalogue. Almond, of course, has been smuggling subversive pop into the charts for the best part of 40 years now and few artists have been able to transplant the avant-garde ideas of their art school days into a mainstream setting with such success. He’d be sorely missed.
