RED BULL RECORDS
The oddest thing about this all-female Utah quartet, whose clippings file reveals a deluge of ‘Ones To Watch’ entries, is how When My Heart Felt Volcanic represents today’s sound, despite providing a digital simulation of both the mainstream MOR of the 80s – think Whitney Houston or Fleetwood Mac – and early 2000s acts like The Corrs.
Rather than simply retreading old ground, perhaps this new generation has recognised the Classic Pop era as a goldmine. Certainly their songwriting is as polished as their production, with hooks aplenty, monster choruses, and peppy, clean-cut harmonies, as well as a mature, heartfelt piano ballad, Hurricane.
