COLOURSØUND II

“Let this be the start of something beautiful,” rasps The Alarm’s Mike Peters as Paradise (Free People) gets underway, but The Cult’s Billy Duffy has other ideas, unleashing a furious display of guitar pyrotechnics which set the tone for their second album. First united in 1999, the duo are clearly raring to rock again, because second track Lightning Strike’s equally ferocious, Peters’ bloody throat competing with Duffy’s inner metalhead. Why reins things in marginally, but if Start A Fire’s hardly novel, the anthemic shimmer of Mourning Call is deliciously unexpected.
