★★★
Capitalising on Marianne Faithfull’s Daniel Lanois-produced LP Vagabond Ways ushering her back into the limelight, a stellar guestlist assembled in 2002. Jarvis Cocker and Beck perfectly caught her freewheeling nihilism, but Billy Corgan bludgeoned her and Blur’s title track was sloppy rather than louche. At least this reissue – with seven bonus CD tracks and a first-time vinyl release – sees The Freelance Hellraiser bring genuine funk to that Blur jazz on his unreleased mix. The pick is Dave Stewart’s Song For Nico, touching and acerbic.
