REAL GONE
★★★★
Following Chris Frantz’s recent autobiography, his and Tina Weymouth’s first album as Tom Tom Club gets a straight vinyl reissue. Sounding as wild and free now as it did in 1982, it’s hard to think of many better side-project albums. It’s alive with possibilities, while Talking Heads’ ability to fit songs into their deepest experiments pays off, as Wordy Rappinghood and As Above, So Below distil all the partying into mighty tracks. You can easily spot its influence resonating today - elsewhere in New York, the young Beastie Boys were surely taking notes.
