MUSIC ON VINYL
The Bangles’ most successful album found them shedding their 60s garage-rock skin and slipping into heavy-rotation MTV stardom. You’ll already be familiar with the hits – Manic Monday and Walk Like An Egyptian – but there’s far more interesting stuff here, including the spirited title track and a cover of Big Star’s September Gurls, with its none-more-’67 backwards guitar solo: both reminders of their role in the early 80s Paisley Underground scene. They’d last one more LP before imploding, but here the grit and gloss balance nicely.
