TRASHCAN SINATRAS
I’VE SEEN EVERYTHING
PAST NIGHT FROM GLASGOW
★★★★
Arriving at the same time as The Perfect Reminder, a book detailing its making, this reissue of 1993’s second Trashcans album offers a welcome opportunity to celebrate the under-sung Irvine band’s jangling joys. The title track is like the happiest, least self-piteous song in The Smiths’ catalogue and Hayfever bounces along irresistibly on a rush of pianos and strings, while Killing The Cabinet is like inhaling Vitamin C. But Orange Fell underlines their intimate, elegiac side, its plans made as “streetlamp Lucozade orange fell”.
