Trevor Horn has never been shy of using technology to extract incredible performances from artists perhaps not blessed with raw talent. But he met his match when producing Malcolm McClaren’s seminal dance hit, Buffalo Gals in 1982.
“The problem with Malcolm was that he couldn’t sing and had no sense of rhythm”, Horn told the Herald Scotland. “Famously, when he was rapping Buffalo Gals I had to punch him on the chest. I told him, ‘You have to try to make the words go with my fist’, just to keep him in time. By the time we got the vocal, I was exhausted.”
