Inundated with alerts to shows taking
place in 2013, we decided to highlight
some of them in our news pages to
help you with your planning (page 6).
We also have some golden oldies Peter
Davies spotted at the IAA Show, Germany’s
big CV show held every two years (page 8).
William Nichol (page 14) is a staunch ERF
fan and has a stunning collection of these
truly classic British trucks, while few can
forget the legend that is the Leyland
Roadtrain. Our Model Profile this issue
concentrates on the T45, its dedicated teams
that designed and built the truck and the
eventual disappearance of this once-revered
marque after Leyland merged with Dutch
truck maker DAF (page 20).
We've Part II of our Peak District trek (page
28). David Humphries had a longstanding
love/hate relationship with this route, revelling
in its beauty when the weather was good, but
fighting his way around in adverse conditions.
Going global, we feature a Scammell
Crusader still earning its keep on heavy
haulage in Australia (page 34), and focus on
Volvo’s Globetrotter cab (page 36), one of the
best sleepers and now over 30 years old.
Peter Davies shines the spotlight on trucks
hard at work in the 1990s (page 38), and the
new organisers of the Malvern Show
introduce themselves and reveal the new
name for the event (page 41).
A Volvo F12 used on runs to Malta and left
to rot in a warehouse in Manchester was
saved from being broken up and exported by
Volvo owner, enthusiast and Steelboys’
member Lance Biscomb (page 44).
Gerald Box remembers his time with West
Country liquid haulage specialist Wincanton
and the trucks they used (page 50), many of
which, Gerald got to drive himself.
Classic Truck reader, Foden fan and
owner-driver Stephen Forster has sent us
more pictures from his archives. These
include classics used as shunters.
One ERF, one Foden and between them
they’ve covered over two million miles (page
56) and are still going strong.
