EQUIPPED CARRY

FINDING HOLSTERS FOR PISTOLS WITH OPTICS, LIGHTS AND LASERS CAN STILL BE A CHALLENGE
PHOTOS FROM THE MANUFACTURERS

If you like to accessorize your carry gun, finding the right holster can sometimes be difficult. Not so for this Glock 19 with Burris Fastfire 3 reflex sight, paired with a DeSantis Gunhide Thumb Break Scabbard holster. Author photo

This DeSantis F.A.M.S. holster, designed for the SIG Sauer P320 with Romeo1 re_lex sight, features a hole for a padlock or handcu _fs to secure the gun in the holster when it’s not being carried.

It’s getting better, but we still have a long way to go.

We’ve become gadget-crazy when it comes to concealed carry. The hope, I suppose, is that if we can gain even a slight edge in a life-or-death confl ict, it might help us to prevail. More people are adding refl ex sights, lights and lasers to their defensive handguns.

While we can debate their benefits all day long—and I believe there are some—the biggest problem is that depending on your choice of handgun, it might be difficult to near-impossible to find a suitable concealed carry holster that fits your particular gun with a refl ex sight, light or laser mounted on it extent. For instance, I have a Crimson Trace Laserguard on my Ruger LCP. It came with the gun when I bought it. Because that gun’s sights are rudimen- tary, I’ve found the laser to be very helpful in low light conditions.
