SHOTS IN THE DARK

TO PREVAIL IN LOW-LIGHT CONFLICTS, YOU NEED THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB
PHOTOS FROM THE MANUFACTURERS

When things go bump in the night, it’s best to be prepared to bump back. Having a gun is only one part of that equation. You have to be able to identify what it is that’s going bump and be able to hit it if need be. A good light is critical in these situations, whether it’s handheld or weapon-mounted, and sights that you can readily pick up in the dark follow closely behind.

LIGHT ‘EM UP

Whether you’re out on the street or in your house, much of the time when trouble comes knocking it’s after the sun goes down. You’re going to often be working in conditions ranging from dim light to no light at all. It’s critical to be able to identify what your threat is and even more important, if what you’re seeing is not a threat.

Tactical lights come in two basic flavors: weapon-mounted and handheld. Weapon-mounted lights have the advantage of already being affixed to your weapon so when you strap on your gun, you automatically have a light with you. The problem comes in when you’re simply trying to identify a threat. Anything you point a weapon-mounted light at you are also pointing your weapon at. If that’s a thug kicking down your front door, that’s OK; but if that thump you heard ends up being your teenage son or daughter coming home late, you’ll be glad all you did was shine a light in their eyes as opposed to having them stare down the barrel of you Glock.
