Cherry Manhattan
2 oz bourbon #/4 oz sweet vermouth 1/4 tsp cherry liqueur (such as Luxardo) Homemade maraschino cherry (see recipe, right) or storebought
To a chilled cocktail mixing glass, add a few ice cubes, bourbon, vermouth, and cherry liqueur. Gently stir, strain into a lowball glass, and garnish with a maraschino cherry. Serves 1.
Mandarin Margarita
1!/2 oz silver tequila 1/2 oz triple sec Juice of 1 mandarin orange, reamed (2 tbsp juice and pulp) 1/4 tsp maple syrup Mandarin orangepeel twist
To a cocktail shaker with a cup of ice, add tequila, triple sec, mandarin juice, and maple syrup. Cover and shake hard for 20 seconds, then pour into a tumbler and garnish with a twist of mandarin. Serves 1.
Homemade Maraschino Cherries
!/4 cup water 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice 1/2 cup maraschino cherry liqueur 1 cup cherries, washed and pitted
Boil water and sugar in a pot for three to four minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla, lemon juice, and liqueur. Put cherries in a Mason jar, and add liquid. Once cool, cover and refrigerate for at least three days. They will keep for a month in the fridge.
