DANZA&DANZA International  |  March/April 2020
The March/April cover story is dedicated to the étoile and Artistic Director of Rome Opera Ballet Eleonora Abbagnato, who has reached a pivotal moment. As a Director she has just finished successfully her first three year contract (renewed till 2021). Her experience as Paris Opéra Ballet étoile will draw to a close this May; we heard from her about her current feelings and future projects.
Francesca Pedroni interviewed the Dutch master Hans van Manen about his choreographic vision in occasion of the Scala Ballet performances of three of his celebrated works. The interview is accompanied by an in-depth look at Dutch neoclassicism in dance, by Silvia Poletti.
We explore the ironic and profound contrasts in the works of Silvia Gribaudi, an Italian choreographer who is at the top of her game, and the passion that moves the Cuban star Carlos Acosta in his projects as Artistic Director of two companies: Acosta Danza and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Meanwhile, a fresh talent on the choreography scene is the Brazilian Juliano Nunes, poised to make his creative debut this April with his full-length ballet Amadé for the San Carlo Theatre Ballet in Naples, directed by Giuseppe Picone.
We asked to Professor Elena Cervellati, from Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna where the Kazuo Ohno Archive is held, to celebrate the figure of the late Yoshito Ohno, Kazuo's son and Tatsumi Hijikata's pupil, who colllected the poetic and iconoclastic vision of dance of these founders of butoh in a very personal way.
