We’ve been big fans of Catherine Russell for the longest time, but she’s secured an extra special place in our hearts this month thanks to a barnstorming speech at the Barclays DIVA Awards. Collecting the LGBT Series/Storyline award for Holby City, the actor received rousing applause for an iconic monologue now known as #OhEvelyn where she recounted a Twitter exchange with a Holby fan “really fed up” with all the gay stuff in the show. Catherine’s reply? On point. “Your homophobic attitude is precisely why it is not only necessary to have same-sex relationships depicted on prime time TV, but vital. We’re not ‘beating a drum’.
