“I want to encourage the next generation to step up”
It’s a chilly evening at the end of November, and my wife and I are about to do something we’ve never done before – watch I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. We’ve heard rumours that Kezia Dugdale, former leader of the Scottish Labour Party, is going into the jungle, and as two proud political geeks we simply can’t miss this. As we excitedly scrolled through the numerous #TeamKez tweets online, the 36-year-old MSP for the Lothians was in lockdown somewhere Down Under, with no clue what was happening back home. “The minute you land in Australia, you’re allowed one phone call to a loved one to say you’ve arrived ok,” she tells me. “You have to do it on loudspeaker in front of a whole production crew, so you can’t really find out anything about what’s happened in the time you’ve been in the air.”
