With LGBTQ people having mostly achieved – at least on a legal level – equal rights in most of the UK, it can be easy to forget the ongoing punishment of queer people worldwide. But same-sex relationships are still illegal in 72 nations, and hundreds of LGBTQ asylum seekers flee to the UK each year in a bid to escape persecution in their home countries.
