BUILDING A LEGACY

Smash hit smartphone game Doctor Who Legacy is adding three comic strip characters to mark 500 issues of DWM. We speak to its creators...

Back in November 2013, the creators of popular smartphone game Doctor Who Legacy had made a tiny mistake.

The app had only just launched, and fans had discovered the name ‘Frobisher’ hidden within the game’s character biographies.

“Frobisher was the first person not part of the Doctor Who TV show to be mentioned in the game, but it was an accident,” recalls executive producer Susan Cummings.

Rather than a nod to the shape-shifting penguin from DWM’s famous comic strips, ‘Frobisher’ was actually a reference to the character played by Peter Capaldi in 2009’s Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Jack Yee.

“It was supposed to be John Frobisher,” reveals Lee Cummings, Susan’s husband and creative director on Legacy. “But we didn’t put down his full name.”
