Beyond the TARDIS

A round-up of what the cast and crew of Doctor Who have been up to away from the series…

DOCTOR NARDOLE

Matt Lucas received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Bristol on 16 February. During his acceptance speech he quipped, “Today, you bring the entire university honours system into question by celebrating a charlatan who left university a year early in 1995.” (tinyurl.com/DrNardole)

RELATIVE DIMENSIONS

Jenna Coleman and Matt Smith have pinned down their on-screen relationship in rival royal dramas Victoria and The Crown, with Matt’s Prince Philip being Jenna’s Queen Victoria’s great great grandson through his mother. Both are now recording Season Two of their respective shows. Matt attended the Royal Television Society event The Crown: Deconstructing the Coronation on 14 March at London’s Ham Yard Hotel, while Jenna joined this season by Diana Rigg as Mistress of the Robes the Duchess of Bucchleuch. Matt has recently been shooting at St Albans Cathedral, while Jenna was in Beverley Minster. A Masterpiece Studio full text interview with Jenna and her co-star Tom Hughes about playing the royal couple is available via tinyurl.com/JennaPBS
