The Tardis whispers through deathless time.’ So begins The Pursuers, a 1965 document in which scriptwriter Terry Nation outlined ‘Dr Who (Segment: Dalek Three) a story line for a play in six parts’. Submitted on Sunday 10 January, this would form the basis for the serial now more commonly known as The Chase. Yet the story’s origins wound back even further – to Wednesday 16 December 1964, when a third outing for Nation’s massively popular Dalek creations was commissioned under the title Doctor Who and the Daleks (III).
