Supacell is about a group of Black Londoners with superpowers. What inspired it?
I love superhero films. But in lockdown it was such an emotional time, with George Floyd happening, the way he was treated. It hit everybody’s nerves and I just wanted to do something. Also, I always liked seeing stories told in a place where I can feel like I can relate.
By place, you mean specifically on this show South London?
Yeah. Like, why are the superheroes always in Times Square, running through Manhattan? London, bro, we’re a big city, you know? Not just in scale, but our influence, our culture. So it was important for me that this was a London story, as big as if it was set in New York or LA.
