Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom  |  November 2013
In these modern times we find unexpected inspiration thanks to the myriad social networking sites. It wasn’t long ago that I happened across a snap of an in-progress kitchen project that the very talented Sean Cochrane of Cochrane Design was working on. The image of beautiful and quite perfect painted wood panelling in a spectacular town house kitchen caught my eye instantly. And because modern technology allows, I instantly contacted him and said ‘Sean, I must have that kitchen!’ It transpired that Westlife’s Mark Feehily had collaborated on the project and a fascinating feature soon came together. Turn to I Have A Dream on page 26 to see how the entertaining spaces of this remarkable renovation evolved. Overwhelmingly, this project shows just what you can achieve with classical proportions and exacting attention to detail. This project, for me, demonstrates that when the best of traditional skills and classical design is given a contemporary twist it can work perfectly for uplifting, easy modern living. Of course another way to introduce a traditional element into a modern setting is by the use of a dresser. Our feature All Dressed Up, see page 90, demonstrates the wide choice available, but also the importance to any kitchen of an element of display. These are the areas where you can inject some personality – some prized china or pottery made by your three-year-old, or family heirlooms. These are also spaces that can be effortlessly updated on a whim. Even in a sleek, modern kitchen would urge you to consider a little space for creative expression. It’s one of the components of a new kitchen that will allow your enjoyment of the space to endure for years to come. Enjoy the issue.
