Spotlight on… the North of Ireland Family History Society

The North of Ireland Family History Society offers a wealth of resources for anyone searching for Irish ancestors in the six counties of Northern Ireland, and three Irish border counties, as Maeve Rogan explains

THE SOCIETY SCENE

Killyleagh Harbour, County Down, which received coal imports from England until as recently as 1984

Family historians with ancestors in Ulster will find plenty to interest them in this busy group of family history societies in Northern Ireland. They run a varied programme of meetings, talks and classes. The society actively works on new transcription projects and maintains resources at its library and research centre near Belfast. Members across the world use its services. Established in County Down in 1979, the North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) now has 10 branches across Northern Ireland.
