The BMW HP4, or High Performance inline four to give it its full name, was a remarkable bike in so many ways. Taking the updated S1000RR as a base – which was already light years ahead of the inline four competition thanks to its staggering motor and chassis that was all backed up by a revolutionary electronics package – BMW then went and upped the ante a massive leap with the HP4…

Unveiled a few month after the second generation RR, which technically made it a 2013 model although a few arrived in dealers in late 2012, the HP4 was effectively an RR and then some. More than aware that its generally affluent clientele were happy to splash the cash on limited edition or performance models thanks to the success of the HP2 range (Sport, Enduro and less successful Megamoto), BMW gave the RR the HP treatment. And as if this wasn’t enough, they then also added some brand new technology.
