Dr Thum writes…

Following from the last issue Christina had her egg collection in August 2015. In total, 11 eggs were collected and Christina kept six, donating five to the recipient. The egg collection was performed under a mild general anaesthetic and was uneventful. For the egg collection procedure the couple came to the Lister clinic at 7am and had a private room with all commodities for the day. Christina did not feel significant pain or discomfort. On the day of egg collection Patrick produced a sperm sample and we performed ICSI injection to enhance fertilisation, and embryo transfer was performed two days later.

The embryo transfer procedure was straightforward without any discomfort. Christina was commenced on progesterone supplements starting from the day after egg collection and we instructed her to continue the progesterone supplement until the pregnancy test was taken. Christina did not report any pain or bleeding after egg collection and embryo transfer procedures.
