IT TAKES A TRUE VISIONARY TO LOOK AT A DISHEVELED, OUTDATED SPACE AND SEE IT FOR WHAT IT COULD BE. When designer Julia Chasman, of Julia Chasman Design, bought this house located on twoand- a-half acres of Joshua Tree land, she focused on its potential rather than its current underwhelming state. “It was in really bad shape, but I could see that the bones were what I wanted,” she says. In addition to all the trials of getting the house up to code and rethinking floor plans to make it more conducive to modern living, she had to bring the home’s interior to life.
