The Guitar Magazine LETTER OF THE MONTH

Dear Chris and company, I attended your Guitar Masterclass event in London with Jon Gomm back in March, and I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for putting on such a fantastic evening. I don’t make it down to London very often given my location and a variety of health issues, but since I first saw Jon play Passionflower on YouTube I’ve been totally captivated by the way he plays, and so I felt like it would be worth the hassle and the cost to come down and see him do something a little bit different to a standard gig – and boy was I not disappointed!

The Dingwalls venue was in such a good location in Camden, and the set-up inside was so relaxed and informal – totally different to a standard gig or masterclass-type thing. I don’t know if the vibe made Jon more at ease, but he was absolutely incredible – watching him do his thing up close like that was totally inspirational, and the step-bystep way that he went through every aspect of his technique for us, and explained how he came up with it, and the influences he drew on to get there… it was just fantastic! I came away with loads of massively helpful advice that I’m going to apply to my own (much more rudimentary) acoustic playing – I’m not sure if I’m ready to stick banjo tuners on my Taylor just yet though!
