Exercising with a health condition
WE ALL KNOW THE IMPORTANCE of being active. Yet even hitting the recommended 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise can be a challenge. ‘For many people it’s a case of finding the time and the motivation,’ says GP Juliet McGrattan, author of Sorted: the Active Woman’s Guide to Health (Bloomsbury, £16.99). ‘But for those with long-term health problems, the complications can be greater – even though these are the people who may stand to benefit the most. ‘Being active not only helps prevent conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, but it may also address established conditions such as joint pain, depression or anxiety,’ says Juliet.
