DR ROBOT WILL SEE YOU…SOON
US researchers have created a DNA tool that can predict people’s height, bone density and the level of education they’ll achieve, based on their genome. Having nailed those outcomes, researchers believe they can apply their method to predicting risk of health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer. Researchers analysed the complete genetic makeup of nearly 500,000 Brits, and the computer, having learned from the data, was able to predict height within an inch, to spot those at risk of very low bone density and those likely to struggle academically. We can already get a good idea of how our genes can predict our health, with a 23&Me gene test (23andme.com, £149).
