“We have to normalise menopause”

Going through early menopause was a shock for Andrea McLean, but now she’s on a mission to inform other women and help them stay positive

Andrea McLean is nursing a broken heart. ‘Jackson was my other baby’, she says of her labradoodle who died at the end of 2018. ‘People call them fur babies. Anyone who doesn’t have a pet wouldn’t understand, but he was my fur baby.’ A faint yapping in the background reveals that while Jackson hasn’t been replaced, Andrea and her family, husband Nick Feeney, who she married in 2017, and children Finlay, 18, and Amy, 12, have found a way to move on.

‘Yes, I have a little scruffball who just needs my help right now.’ The ‘little scruffball’ is a terrier pup Andrea, 49, and co have fostered from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. ‘She arrived a week ago and we’ve completely fallen in love with her.’
