How long should I keep my beauty products for? Do they go off?
Each label has a symbol (see below), which means the manufacturer recommends you use it within the specified months of opening. Most products are tested to ensure they’re suitable and safe for at least 36 months after manufacture (if it’s less than 24 months, they must have an expiry date). But, over time you’ll see changes in feel, smell or colour due to the product reacting with air, light and anything else it comes into contact with. This occurs more in natural ones, but it’s better than using synthetics! Keep products out of sunlight, avoid getting water in them and put the lid on after use. If in doubt, dispose of contents and recycle the packaging.
