In this month’s issue of Drummer we bring you our exclusive interview with Stone Sour’s powerhouse drummer Roy Mayorga, who chats to Joel McIver about his incredible career as well as how he found himself hospitalised last year after rocking-out a little too hard. We also spend some time with one of the UK’s hottest young players, Josh Devine, who aside from holding down the drum chair with one of the biggest bands in the world, One Direction, found time to perform at last years London Drum Show, turning in a memorable performance that almost blew the roof off of the London Olympia venue. Elsewhere we speak to Tommy Aldridge, a drummer who throughout his long career has played with some of the biggest names in rock; Poogie Bell joins us to talk about his forthcoming tour and new album, and how groove is the most important skill that every drummer should have. George Johnson, Seal’s current drummer of choice, continues this theme, highlighting how throughout his career groove has always equalled gigs, which has seen him work with some of the biggest names currently on the American music scene. Our final word this month goes to Donavan Hepburn, who tells us about the highlight of his career was performing for Her Majesty and millions of viewers at last years Jubilee Concert, and that the aftershow was just as memorable!
Gear-wise, we bring you an exclusive first look at Carlsbro’s new e-kit; a comprehensive package for less than £600.00. We also spend some time with a brace of beautiful, hand-crafted snare drums courtesy of Tiki drums; a set of Meinl Byzance Sand cymbals designed in collaboration with the über-talented Benny Greb and a set of Dixon Kinde hardware that provides strength and stability with style and ease.
