Murrell

About the other half
Pic: Ewan McIntosh

THIS isn’t the story it was intended to be. In the wake of a General Election which saw the SNP lose more than a third of its MPs, but with leader Nicola Sturgeon still in an unassailable position within the party, the knives were out instead for her husband, chief executive Peter Murrell.

The criticism of the ultimate power couple with too much control and too tight an inner circle was gaining traction, even although Murrell was already working for the SNP when his wife was still at school and he was already the party’s top bureaucrat by the time she became deputy leader. He in no way owed his job to his wife, so iScot sought an interview to afford him the opportunity to answer the criticism. It would not be a hostile exchange but a fair attempt to give his side of the story. This magazine, after all, is for “those o independent mind.”
